In this month’s herbal exploration, we meet Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), one of Europe’s most fascinating medicinal and magical plants.
As we approach the Summer Solstice and the New Moon in Gemini, we explore a herb that has long been associated with dreams, intuition, clearing and cleansing.
Mugwort has been used for centuries as a dreaming herb, traditionally taken as a tea, placed beneath the pillow, or burned as incense to support vivid dreams and dream recall.
It is also a powerful medicinal plant with a long history as a digestive tonic, stomachic, antifungal, and anthelmintic herb.
Used as a native incense to clear spaces and in ceremony too.
🌿 In this video we explore:
*How to identify Mugwort in the wild
*Traditional medicinal uses of Artemisia vulgaris
*Mugwort as a dream herb and its folklore
*Mugwort in moxibustion and Traditional Chinese Medicine
*Historical uses in brewing before hops became widespread
🔥 We will make Mugwort Smoke Sticks
Using freshly harvested mugwort gathered around midsummer, I’ll show you how I make traditional smoke sticks each year by gathering stems, binding them into bundles, and drying them for later use.
These smoke sticks can be used to:
*Clear rooms and ritual spaces
*Mark seasonal ceremonies
*Support meditation and reflection
This practice draws on European traditions of working with local aromatic plants and offers an alternative to imported white sage.
