✨ A heart warming welcome,
In this video we meet Mistletoe (Viscum album) — a plant long associated with midwinter, thresholds, protection, and calm — as we arrive at the New Moon in Sagittarius and the Winter Solstice.
Mistletoe is a hemiparasitic evergreen, growing high in the crowns of trees and remaining visible when everything else has fallen away.
Traditionally used across Europe for lowering blood pressure, and as a sedative, antispasmodic, and circulatory herb, it has been worked with for centuries to calm the nervous system, support the heart and blood pressure, and ease spasms and seizures.
Mistletoe is also steeped in folklore and myth with its Druidic associations and links to reconciliation.
Enemies meeting beneath mistletoe were expected to lay down their weapons until the following day. Ever kissed under the mistletoe?
In this video (and the substack article, link below) we explore:
🌿 The botany of mistletoe and where it grows
🌿 Folklore, midwinter traditions, and how Victorian pagan revival shaped some of its myths
🌿 Medicinal uses, constituents (including viscin and viscotoxins), and safe traditional preparations
🌿 The connection between mistletoe, the Sagittarius New Moon, and the Winter Solstice
🍵 How to prepare a simple mistletoe tea using the leaves and young stems.
This is a time to slow down, release excess tension, and set new intentions — just as the year itself comes to a pause before the light returns.
With winter rest, Steph ❄️
